Too Early?

Being a MinneSOHtan, I really accentuate my vowels.

I say PEE-oh-NEE, Miz-ur-EE, New Or-LEENs, Hew-ston.....

I also say CRAN instead of CRAY-on. My friends in Kentucky and Arkansas think it's just hilarious. They also make fun of the way I say certain profanities....but I won't post how I pronounce those :plbb

Like, dag-NAB-it?

My grandma always said Idy-ho. She was definitely a native, but the only one in the family that I ever heard pronounce it like that.

My Grandmother said that, too!

'Cept, she wasn't born in Idy-ho. She was from Missour-ee . . .

Oh you all (or is that, "y'all"?) are cracking me up! Yes thistlebloom, I'm distracted. It happens quite easily - especially this time of year...

HPQ, being from different parts of the state, (I think we live, what, 3 hours apart or somewhere thereabouts?) we must have different dialects. It's Miz-UR-ee, EYE-da-ho, and New OR-lens.

Yes probably about 3 hours. My grandparents are 100% Norwegian and the other is 50% Swedish and 50% Norwegian. They have incredibly thick accents and I picked up a lot from them. I was even teased by kids in high school that had moved here from other areas. They said I justified the movie 'Fargo'......which some native Minnesotans dont take too kindly to :smack

eye-dah-HO
CRAN
Miz-ur-ree (similarly to "misery" not that Missouri is a bad place:p)
New OR-LUNS (Am I the only one that pronounces it like this?:hide)
Cai-row
clem-ATis
pee-OH-nee

How about "tomato"?

tuh-MAE-toe

HPQ - that's a lot of scandinavian! No wonder we pronounce things differently!

At Fresno State U. vs. Idaho State football games ... I have seen T shirts that had " I da HO " printed on the fronts. ;)
