Went Dog "Shopping" Today

There is a female beagle that lives maybe a half mile away. She makes her daily rounds and visits my compost pile to see if I threw out something edible. Today she was wandering in the yard while the chickens were out. They barely paid any mind of her, nor she of them. I like that in a dog. :)

As soon as a Beagle puts it's nose near the ground, it looses it's mind, puts on it's running shoes, tunes in it's singing voice , and immediately takes a tour over hill and dale. Then can't find it's way back home .

I don't think I would necessarily want a beagle. I have heard they bark a lot. But I just liked that this one didn't chase the chickens. She is pretty old and probably worn out from having puppies, from the looks of her.

Ask me how I know...Chased Dusty the beagle for almost 3 years thru the panhandle of Texas in Amarillo. Thank goodness we gave him away when he bit my baby brother.
I would guess your brother had it coming as I've only seen one mean beagle in my life.

@Nyboy beagles are not THE Snoopy but they are very snoopy......

Haha, I had a part beagle...we lost him so many times I can't even believe he got to grow old with us. Sometimes for days. But not a mean bone in his body - many kind people who "found" him (or he decided to go home with) asked if he needed a home or they could keep him, he was so sweet!

Had a beagle/German Shepard cross-dad was the shepherd. Size of small shepherd, perfectly marked as a beagle. He had the protectiveness of shepherd but wander lust of beagle. He and my DD were inseparable. If you wanted to spank or rough house with her, you had to go through HIM.

a friend of ours has a beagle and beagle/corgi? cross. both are sweet older dogs and seem well behaved but i know that if given the chance to be outside & off harnesses would follow their noses to all sorts of trouble.
