I bought one almost exactly like that, NyBoy.

It was years ago and a rental home. Heat was electric or a fireplace. I ended up living there much longer than I expected because of health problems interfering with other plans.

Two stories, the upstairs could be very warm, living room freezing! What's to worry about? Nice fireplace, build a fire --- upstairs tropical! Also, the fireplace was terribly inefficient.

I put doors on the hallway to stairs. A piece of sheetmetal closed the fireplace. A stovepipe passed through the sheetmetal ... turned out that there was very little room on the hearth for a stove. Further, a pedestal-type was too high. I no longer had the Ashley from cabin days but it would never have fit!

I didn't ever have any pots on the stove and closing off that stairwell probably made more difference in comfort but I could maintain a small fire in that stove and have a warm living room.
