You might be a gardener if.....

You might be a gardener if you feel a twinge of guilt, throwing away a cucumber from your favorite variety even though it is scarred all along 1 side, bent at a 90° angle, and you are a week late with the harvest. So ... you have to carry said cucumber 50 feet away from the vines in an attempt to not emotionally upset the plants that the cucumber is anywhere near as it deteriorates away.

I don’t know wether to laugh or to cry!

for a first harvest i'd bring that in, peel it and cut it up or use it in something else where you'd never know it was a reject. even cukes 8 inches across have been used here once you scoop the stuff out of the middle that's too seedy and you peel it there's not much left that can't be used. unless it went bitter or soft.

both at the same time? :)

last year's old cucumbers that were too big for us to use and we didn't want the seeds so i tossed them over under the lilac tree thinking some animals would eventually go after them. not touched for 6 months before some of them finally started to rot. all winter long i was wondering when the deer would find them. nope. no interest in them at all. maybe spraying valuable plants with old-cucumber tonic might be a way to decoy them? hahaha. nope, not going to try that, but it's amusing to contemplate... :)

Or have a wife that tosses it out whilst you look on with angst.

That's the thing, @Dirtmechanic .

DW will throw far more veggies away than I ever would ... except,

.. it reaches rather silly proportions when both refrigerators are stuffed and there is a cooler with ice and veggies on the deck - All for Us. Oh, I long for those days. Soon!

Steve :)

Having literally just done this.....

You might be a gardener if........you find yourself out in a rainstorm because "The corn NEEDS to get into the ground"

(bonus points, if you talk someone else into being out there helping you)
Planting in the rain is like a ritual for me each spring lol.

People driving by always slow down to see what this nut case is doing wearing a wide rim hat outside in the downpour.

I am not ashamed tho lol....I am who I am :hu
