We had some smoke here too. The moon has been orange-red the past couple days with gorgeous sunsets! Luckily we can't smell it as it is up high!

we don't smell the smoke but it isn't normal as i usually do not bring up gunk in my throat all the time and have a hard time breathing. towards the end of the day the sky cleared up quite a bit and we could see the sky and the sun. still seems sorta gunky though.

they've changed our forecast to include some chances of rain for tomorrow (Wed) afternoon and the early evening. not large chances so i won't count it until it hits the ground.

we ended up with an inch in the rain gauge but there's a good chance there was more because where we have the rain gauge is somewhat surrounded by cedar trees and the swing.

we really needed a good soaking so this is a big help.

pretty much chances of rain the next two days and nights and then a break for a few days and then back to chances of rain again for a few days.

it's going to be a muddy mess doing any weeding today but i have to get some of it done so i'll do what i can - usually there is a way for me to make some progress.

Wet is best for weeding IMHO!!

haha, not really in most of our gardens that have a lot of clay. i spend more time scraping mud off things than getting much done. a few gardens i can do that have more sandy soil and those are what i will get to first, but as of yet, today has been a useless attempt at trying to get outside and then being interrupted and distracted by everything else that i don't want to deal with but there it is... :)

i can weed pathways and decoration areas and other gardens too that i can go along edges, but as you can see i'm still inside frogging around on this computer instead of getting my butt outside...

Very cool for early August!

Our high numbers yesterday and the day before have not been seen since the first days of June. The normal high is 86°f (30C°) but it was in the low 70'sF with plenty of breeze ... It was 50°f (10°C) this morning, a low also not seen in weeks. Two nights ago, there was some rain south of here and into the foothills of the Rockies. That helped with any blowing dust but the rain event was indiscernible here by the sunrise yesterday. I went out and realized that some moisture had fallen on the backsteps. Concrete walkways and the road were completely dry. The Weather Service counted it locally as .01 of an inch plus a trace for the 2 days.

A town in the foothills a little ways south and east had 1/4". With such an arid Summer, one has to appreciate if any rain falls nearby 🤷‍♂️ .

Finished my 2nd breakfast of the 2nd half of a leftover bean burrito from the deli and had that with some green beans from the garden ... realized that they were both beans when I set the plate down!

I explored the WS drought monitor for a few minutes ..

. discovering a series of maps by date on this webpage LINK.

You can see how things deteriorated since January in the Pacific Northwest. And, looking elsewhere, learn about conditions across the US. Remember, droughts are measured by normal conditions. So, if normal is something like 20 inches of precipitation annually, conditions are getting dang dry around here. That small town I mentioned in the above post is right beside that darker than dark blotch in northern Idaho.

Just checked the drought area map for Oregon.. Portland is in a severe drought. It’s a very dry summer since climate change it has been dryer in July thru September . In fact the state of Oregon has a new season map called
‘Wildfire Season’. We are in a higher danger zone and fire insurance rates are also higher.
