It smells of smoke this afternoon. The local sensors say that the air is only at "moderate" level, fortunately. The fires are some distance away, mostly in the central Idaho Rockies but the air is moving from the southeast so the smoke is coming this way.

Some rain is falling in that area and we are supposed to have a 40% chance overnight and through tomorrow. It's the old "less than one tenth of an inch" story. But, further south and perhaps on those fires, there may be some serious rain. Hopefully, lightning ⚡ won't accompany the storms. The news is that the existing fires are lightning caused.

Somewhat of a busy day and, altho I didn't do any garden work, unless mowing the lawn counts, I have been outdoors a good deal. The smoke has been more and more noticeable through the day. Now, I'm enjoying being indoors with the Air Conditioning altho outdoors, it is only 82°f (28°C). That is almost exactly what our high temperature was yesterday. The WS seriously missed its prediction for yesterday being above 90°f. This is what happens when smoke begins to enter the picture. Combined now with rainclouds, we have a cooling trend altho we are paying seriously for it.

Steve, with a mid-afternoon snack of zucchini bread and garden fresh Crenshaw melon :).

Yesterday morning we had rain. I was relieved but that was short lived because directly after the rain stopped the sun came out drying up the moisture from our gardens.

It looks as if it will be cooler day with a little light rain. According to the forecast

We have had rain grey a sky.. it's so much cooler today. So no complaints here

In our surrounding mountains we have had a few peat fires rear up. One has been ongoing for weeks. So I am most grateful for this bit of rain and I hope we get more in the coming days

calm today the forecast said. i went out to pick a few seeds from the cosmo patch (hoping to find more yellow ones to segregate from the orange ones) and as i was bending over to pick some seeds a wind came up and almost knocked me over. calm? hmm... maybe they don't recall what calm is there?

most of the seeds i picked were either mixed with some yellow or orange, but i did get a few seeds from a few plants that had yellow flowers on them so perhaps these will be the start of the yellow patch next season...

otherwise beautiful day outside. mowing is done other than me washing out the mower - i will get that done now because it can dry off better out in the sun than in the garage.

I was going to make cookies but it's 81*! Way to hot so I measured everything out and will make them tomorrow morning before it gets hot.

Today it's a scorcher at 86* and tomorrow will be 80*. With no AC it's hot in here!
