yes, if you see a post from me we have power as the radio network i use doesn't have battery backup.

we do have a propane fueled fireplace so we're ok if we lose the power to run the furnace - we call it camping. :)
Please don't use tins to boil anything. There's metals in them that shouldn't be heated up. It contaminates food and water getting into the blood stream and our brain.

I've bought a stainless steel kettle and small saucepan. I also kept a camping gas hob for emergencies.

Please don't use food tins to heat up food or water. The metals when heated get into our blood stream and enter our brain.

um, these are cans that has the food in them to begin with and they are heated quite a bit during the manufacturing and canning processes so us warming them up isn't going to kill us, and besides i can tell you that Mom don't give a rip about any possible contaminants coming from cans or plastics. it's not like we do this all the time...

The dictionary was required but, maybe I have it. Yeah, I have a small propane burner with a grate in the garage. Also, there is a supply of charcoal and a hibachi along with a larger grill. Finally, there's a small cast-iron wood stove with never-used metal stove pipe of sufficient length to reach beyond a basement window. I'd have to carry it downstairs, however o_O.

So, how often have we lost power for more than a couple of hours? It hasn't happened once in our 30 years residence in this home 🤷‍♂️ . I think it has really helped to be within about 20 miles of 4 hydroelectric dams. Additionally, there is now a large windmill complex at about that distance. The nearest dam is less than 2 miles away.

Ice storms are infrequent but one took out the electric power for several weeks in some nearby neighborhoods. That didn't happen for us.
