That's what we have as a backsplash, tumbled travertine in a 4x4. My husband ran it behind the stove also and up to the exhaust hood.
I really like it.
Make sure you put a good sealer on it. I was worried about the bit behind the cooktop, thinking it would start looking dingy from the cooking, but it's been in a couple of years now and still looks fresh.
Oh yeah, he also ran it up and over the windowsill behind the sink, it has a lip so the windowsill is nice and wide. That's my favorite part. It had been wood that matches the cabinets, but I must be kind of a wild dishwasher because the wood was looking real crummy from water damage and the sun beating on it in the summer. So much nicer now.
