I doubt it Mary... The crowns are planted 8" deep & 12-18" apart. They really need a dedicated bed all to themselves as they do not like to be disturbed & spread fairly rapidly. My bed is 25' X 4'.

What variety of asparagus do you have. Our patch never produced as well as yours is. We did not fertilize either no sure if that makes or not though. We do want to start a new patch at this house so I need to investigate what might work best here. Nice harvest WR.

@w_r_ranch , wow those a huge the last crowns we planted were maybe 6”. They were doing ok after 3/4 years but nothing like yours are doing. I am going to have to study up on it before planting any here.

Your garden beds are perfect. I marked that asparagus link, thanks. I planted some asparagus crowns from TSC a couple years ago, never really paid much attention and they never really did much. I need to mend my ways..... You have inspired me to do better by my neglected asparagus, and to order some more.

I love it fresh, detest it canned (it's mushy and stinks). So how does it do as frozen? Do you just heat it up or use in stir fry and such?

Bay, I blanch it for 1 1/2 minutes & then put the spears in ice water. Afterwards they are spread out on a towel & dried before freezing. When the are frozen, I vacuum pack them & put them back in the freezer until we want them.

While they are not the same as freshly harvested spears, they are still pretty firm after steaming or grilling.

Finished cleaning & forming the rows in the garden. I started installing the tomato stakes but I still need to finish. Then i burned the garden trash. Time to start planting...

I harvested more asparagus because I forgot about the gal that cuts our hair. Her & her daughter are nice people that we like to share with!!!
