We may have a most unusual storm on its way. In another thread, I said, "Frost is on its way to my gardens and it may be over several days and difficult/impossible for me to fend off. Today, I harvested green tomatoes."
It's 40°f right now but that isn't the news. A storm is on the horizon and that storm will be somewhat different from the one that dumped hail on the distant garden yesterday afternoon. Snow is "likely."
The Weather Service isn't backing away from the forecasts first began about 5 days ago. "On track," they say; temperatures "10° below normal," they say.
If nearby Spokane receives 1.5" of September snow, it will be a new record in 125 years of keeping track. NW Montana will really feel the brunt of this. As a westerner, I've heard about Cut Bank Montana my entire life. Always, it's been about bad weather! I don't think that I ever want to go there ... Cut Bank, you can expect 30+ inches of September snow.
While record heat continues to make life difficult on the other side of the continent, frost has already touched my garden and, along with hail, rain, wind gusts above 30 mph, and snow ... freezing temperatures can be expected right through the next 7 days. Highs may not even make it out of the 30's, Fahrenheit.
