I'm having a pretty good second year for my little garden. I've had some life issues, so I'm behind, but my growing season is long, so I will just mulch the tar out of everything and hopefully they'll make it through the hottest part of the summer.
This year I've noticed better soil quality...
Will this work? I have a whole big pile of neglected compost that has yet to compost, and was wondering could I use this in between rows to help control weeds? It's got wood shavings, kitchen scraps - which I can work around to aviod any rotten stuff being used - chicken poo, leaves, etc. I...
I've tried growing blue berries, but my soil is not acidic enough... They died. :( Would blackberries or raspberries do better? What conditions do they like. What about grapes?
Ok, so I've never started seeds before, but I'm going to this year. I am going to use cardboard egg cartons. I was wondering though if I have to use a grow light, or if placing them in southern facing windows will be sufficient?
Any other first time seed starter advise would be great too...
I am now gardening with rabbits!! Here they are...
The first two are does and the last is the buck. He hasn't been as active as the females, he does brighten up when I'm not around, so I'm just going to be keeping an eye on him. He's not eating very much, is that normal for being moved?
So I have had terrible anxiety over my dirt. My garden did rather poorley this year, and I have decided not to do a fall garden, instead I am going to get the soil a little better prepared for next year.
I had a soil analysis completed by my state, and it was very straight forward, although...
So, I really have a long way to go to get my soil up to snuff. I was thinking about calling the local large animal vet clinic to ask them for their horse manure. I just wanted to ask y'all first if there is anything I should worry about as far as medicine or illness that might make the manure...
I just relocated an azalea in my yard, and the rolly pollies have gone mad around it. I did not see one when I was digging the hole for it, but now the rolly pollies are everywhere... baby, teenager and elderly rolly pollies. Will they hurt the azalea? If they might, how do I get rid of them...
half way dead. :(
The only survivors are a couple of watermelons, mush melons, tomatoes, okra and carrots. The cucumbers, green beans, broccolli, zucchini, butternut squash, bell peppers, corn, and herbs (even mint) are dead or dying.
I will have a soil analysis done to see what I need to...
Hi everyone! I have an "L" shaped flower bed at the front of my house that I want to do something with. I am in zone 8. Is it too late to plant perinnials now or should I wait until fall or does it depend on the plant? I'm not even sure what I want, but hubby wants something tall next to the...
I'm soo excited, and just had to share that when I came home from work yesterday, hubby was on the roof fixing a section of gutter that he had just put a 55 gallon rain barrell under!!! :weee
And the best part is it rained all night. When I woke up this morning, my brand new rain barrell is...
I'm starting to plan a fall garden and am not really sure where to begin. I haven't even looked for websites with info on it, that will be my next stop, I just think that y'all have so much good experience to offer that I wanted to ask you first.
I was wanting to do a fall garden because our...
I planted some sunflowers around my cukes so they can grow up them. I think I planted them too thick and am worried about the cukes getting enough sun. I was thinking I would just thin the leaves off the sunflowers to allow more light to get by. What are y'alls thoughts?
I know it's early yet, but I'm very excited about my little garden so far. I planted some stuff late and some stuff early, but all in all things seem to be doing good. I have learned a lot about what not to do so far, we'll see what the rest of the growing season has in store. I'm glad that I...
ok, so I started a couple of compost bins in two of those rubbermaid containers. I put holes in the bottom and sides, but obviously not enough. I left the lids off and it rained hard, so now I have stinky compost stew. :sick Not pretty. I've been trying for days to shove as much absorbent...
They are calling for near freezing temps tonight and tomorrow night. :hit I'm so sad, I had little sprouts already. O well, I guess I will be re-seeding in a couple of weeks. I was just too impatient to wait any longer.
I just wanted to introduce myself. I have been reading a lot about gardening on here, but haven't posted anything yet, so here it is... This is the first year I am serious about gardening. My garden is about 23' x 27', I've got clay soil, which I think will actually be to my benefit as far as...
