in Michigan, as the numbers of new infections suggested from some time ago the hospitalisation rate has gone way up again, the worst it has been since the pandemic started:

and also as more older people have been vaccinated the shift in hospitalisations has gone to more younger people.

the state of MI has no new plans for putting more restrictions back in place but the govenor has made personal suggestions...

in good news not many people who have been fully vaccinated are getting infected:

and even among those at least three may not really have been breakthrough cases:

my own first shot was ok, my arm hurt for a day and a half, no noticeable other side effects. 2nd dose appointment was scheduled already so that's already marked on my calendar.

Problems are developing for hospitals north of the border, also.

Ontario has critical care at nearly overwhelming levels.

Also, it is younger patients in this wave, according to the news people there. Long-term health problems still unknown but the numbers will shake out in time on the questions about how many young lives were lost, how many lives were impaired and shortened.

DW is not complaining one word, the morning of the 3rd day following the 2nd Moderna vaccination. We had a friend stop by yesterday. Out of an abundance of caution, he called us from a chair in our backyard :D. His 2nd vaccination was in early March. He said he felt a "little out of sorts" for about a day and a half following #2.

The friend is in my age group and in same county. I'm guilty of waiting - no question about it. DW not qualifying when I did, pulled some motivation out from under my feet but that ain't much of an excuse.

I'm not sure what Canadian news outlet you are following, but I'd advise caution in taking any of them to be factual. Our media has been utterly and completely corrupted, over the last years particularly, due to several dark backroom dealings and a corrupted PM etc. etc. This is the situation from the more trustworthy of the bunch -

"There are 492 hospitals in Ontario. There are 496 people in intensive care units from Covid-19. They each have a hospital to themselves. So to keep panic levels high, the lockdown reps just sent the attached emergency message to every cell phone in the province."

Just sayin' :)

"There are 1,932 patients with COVID-19 in the province's hospitals, according to the Ministry of Health." CBC Toronto April 15

"Deluge of COVID-19 patients risk overwhelming Ontario Hospitals" Toronto Globe and Mail April 16

"Throughout this third wave, the one spot of good news had been the relatively low number of deaths ... Now comes concerning data to suggest that the death rate is again rising, and quickly...The situation is worst in Ontario..." MacLean Magazine April 16

MacLean is a nation-wide newsmagazine founded in 1905. The Toronto newspaper has been around for well over 100 years.

@heirloomgal hospital capacity is not the same as the ICU capacity, the staff needed to properly deal with Covid have to be well trained. even having 20% of the beds at a hospital being Covid ICU cases is going to be a tremendous drain on the resources let alone if there are others needing help too. Covid cases that are not in the ICU still need pretty strict isolation and protective equipment which is also another drain on resources.

luckily some things have been learned since the pandemic started but guess what happens when a hospital gets overloaded? it won't matter who knows what if the staff is exhausted and can't provide care any longer because the hallways are full of sick people and there's no more PPE or oxygen or ...

T Nugent has COVID 19.

"Just what the doctor ordered." (??) "... can hardly drag myself outta bed."

i don't suppose that it will immediately change anyone's opinion of him, positive or negative.

That's really unfortunate. This is the first I've heard that. I found a video on his facebook after reading this, a spirit campfire with John Brenkus that he does regularly, and he looks like he's doing pretty good now thank goodness. The interview is a good one regarding many of the issues tied to this topic.
