In a matter of DAYS anything can happen!!!

Like last night, I got another lb of strawberries, and a pound of fresh onions.... looks like in a day or 2 I will be picking a ton of peas to shell too!!!

This sounds like fun. I haven't purchased a single thing for a garden this season yet. I wasn't sure if I was going to attempt one since I did so poorly last year.

I'm one of those "average joes". I only have the back deck of my townhouse. I can't plant anything in the yard since the soil won't grow anything, so I'm restricted to pots for now (I can't afford to put in raised beds.)

I'm not sure what I am going to plant this year, but I will update as I begin starting seeds and putting them in pots and such.

To save lots of money, and improve your soil- get lots of grass clippings, old leaves, wood chips, or whatever you can get along those lines. Pile them thick on the areas that you would like to make rich soil.
Add a cup of the worms (the red worms they sell for bait are fine) to the pile. They will love it there.
If you have a slope that makes you lose soil- you might make a low wall from a landscape timber, rocks or anything that will hold it in.
As the plant stuff breaks down, it turns into good dirt. The worms speed the process up alot.

This is still mostly lettuces, green onions & radishes!!!
I starting picking strawberries a couple of days ago and there have been many herbs but I haven't figured in those values.

My green beans have started to flower, my sunflowers are quite large. My Pink Lady tomato & Yellow Pear tomatoes have started flowering too.

I'm ALMOST done planting, whew!! About 3 weeks now of EVERY day and I almost have it all done. SO MUCH has changed, I have new beds too!!! I'll get you all caught up soon, I promise! I'm spending about half a day weeding & watering... and the other half is chores, building, shoveling & planting.

I PLAN to be done tonight but, that would be the 3rd time I thought I was done.. so who knows!!!!

I can't wait to have something to show. I have pickling cucumber plants sprouting upstairs, unfortunately the cat ate the potted blueberry bush and its now dying slowly. He has a ... green tooth? He likes to eat all and any vegetation, he even killed the cat grass and catnip.

LOL....

My cat just likes to go potty on my plants. She killed several spinach sprouts today, and even killed a blueberry cane I planted a couple of days ago. Hubby chased her out of the freshly planted fennel bed. I think she has it out for my garden this year. :/

I know this is an older post but I am just getting caught up on this thread.
You know you can buy a plant that deters dogs and cats from peeing in your garden, its called a Piss Off Plant.
I saw them on line recently, it would be worth a try if the cat has made a habit out of it.

The link at the beginning is a spread sheet you can print or change for your needs, write in what you need to keep track for your records. I would like copies of the finished pages filled out at the end of the 2010 growing season for each person who WANTS to fill it out.

Otherwise sharing your info here is good too!!!

Some of us, most of us, are doing both.

ok my startup for this year's garden comes to a total of $99.86
Using my own organic fertilizer from our critters
Using well water to water garden
using old bedding hay,straw, shavings for mulching purposes and weed control
recycled t-posts for supports etc
what else is needed for information excluding harvest amounts?
