I'm an internet friend of "aftermidnight" and "Zeedman."

I'm a beanaholic too! I just found this place thanks to Annette. I was asking her about Bluejay bean I had been reading about on The bean collectors window. Well....and here I am.

put up with? Put Up With?! PUT UP WITH?!?!?!?! you are another one of my heroes here on TEG. trying to keep bean varieties going, searching for sources, etc. you're very determined and that is admirable.

i can talk beans any time and all of the time, the problem is that i don't know nearly enough and as i get older i forget more of what i learn than i retain. i'm always looking for good reads about beans. history, genetics, studies, folk-lore, etc. i wish i could afford to genetically sequence every bean i have so i could know what line they are from, who the parents, grandparents and such were. since i've only started with certain beans i'm still rather amazed at what keeps showing up each year as new arrivals/cross breeds.

p.s. i can't plant until towards the end of May most years...

I was once a member of John Withee's "Wanigan Associates" in the late 1970's and early 80's. This thread was started because a fellow from California by the name of Marshall Smyth urged me to start a network of bean growers to help preserve old beans. This is an anrticle researched and written by The Seed Savers Exchange about the the life and bean network of John Withee who was an early advocate of saving old bean varieties from exctintion and is the greatest collector of old beans that America has ever seen.
