    Crazy to Plant Bindweed?

In defense of the bindweed :hide , it does have some redeeming qualities: in severe drought it is the matrix that helps keep our soil here instead of letting Oklahoma borrow it and (according to the Internet) it can be effective in fighting some kinds of cancer!

    Fashion in the garden

I'm in the whatever- is- not- clean- enough- to- go- out- in- public-, bu-t not- quite- ready- for- the- laundry camp. The only real givens in my garden wardrobe are my super floppy straw hat (with stampede string so I can garden instead of chase my windblown hat) and my purple garden gloves...

    Rabbit Crisis...Need Advice!

Thanks gang! Happy bunny update. She's still in the house, eating, drinking, peeing, pooping and driving the cats totally nuts! Do rabbits get gas colic like horses? That's really what this was most similar to. And NOW I know something else that needs to go in the first aid kit! Don't...

    Rabbit Crisis...Need Advice!

Here we sit in the midst of a blizzard, and one of our yound Dutch bunnies is having a problem. Yesterday, she was a little lethargic, but quiet, eating & drinking and investigating the insulation (grass hay) we added to her cage. This morning she's not eating and is crying. She's on her way...

You guys are a bad influence

Even though I'm a ranch kid, it took a long time to get comfortable eating something that I'd taken care of. However, after the infamous Thistle the longhorn cow episode, I gained a new perspective. Thistle, named for her delightful personality  , insisted on jumping any fence she...

You guys are a bad influence

For years I've been telling my DH that we did NOT need rabbits! Two weeks ago, these came to keep my chickens company Actually, there are 2 black does, but I've only got the pics of one downloaded! The first pic is of Charlie, who tends to photograph black, but is really blue. And...

    God made a farmer

Growing up in a ranching/farming family, I really loved the part where the farmer puts in a 40 hour week by Tuesday noon, and then goes tractor-back for another 72 hours. Reminded me of when we had over 400 acres of wheat field to plow...and top speed on the tractor was 10 mph! Took about 2...

    More really amazing stuff

If you need more excitement, bay, have a well-meaning relative give your mom a cell phone! it will provide her with endless amusement watching you try to be patient while explaing how it works for the umpteenth time. I may forgive my SIL for that someday! :duc Anyway, sending you hugs and...

A light at the end of the tunnel!

Not to brag or anything, but I've got robins! Of course, around my area, that doesn't mean too much since we have 'em here almost year-round. :( I've always joked that I'd like to have 6 months of October, and I think this year, I got my wish. It's been waaaay too fallish for words, which...

    Your boring/interesting/exciting Weather!

I thank you for your thoughtfulness in NOT reminding me of our lack of moisture! Actually, we've been dry for so long, I'm about to become adapted. The first year, it was denial. Last year, I spent a small fortune in drip hoses and systems. This year, I have a couple of areas that I need...

    Your boring/interesting/exciting Weather!

Had a 50/50 day today...50 degrees and wind gusts of 50mph :hu Tomorrow we are back to winter for the next week or so. Which leaves me moderately annoyed. I really need to get my manure pile moved to the garden, not to Oklahoma! On the bright side, the guy who's going to build my greenhouse...

    Seed catalogs and garden planning

Finished combing though the catalogs last night and think (hope) I've gotten a plan. Went out to the garden this afternoon to see if the "paper" plan would fit the space available. I may have a real mess about July, but it will darn sure cut down on the weeding! On a side note, got a cold...
