I would vote for the greenhouse first too. Also, in lieu of honeybees, you could consider providing nesting boxes/shelters for native bees. They tend to be more docile than honey bees, no honey to deal with and they are super efficient pollinators.

For the past couple of years I've grown potatoes in 5 gallon buckets. I just didn't have the garden bed space to devote to potato beds.
I drilled a few holes in the bottom of the bucket for drainage. Then I like to put a small layer of hay down, then plant the potato "eyes" in a layer of soil...
Hello again everyone,
Happy New Year!
Another update from my MG program...the first part of the journey is over. I finished up the classes in December and passed the exam! :weee

Hello everyone,
I suppose it is time for an update :) ...
This week's class will mark the half way point in our classroom training. I've learned a great deal about just how much I don't know. :P
I don't think that I would be alone in saying that the sheer amount of information is overwhelming...
We LOVE our CSA. I believe it's one of the largest on the east coast. We are so lucky to be within their delivery area!
Spiral Path Farm
We've been members for 3 or 4 years now??? We get a medium share each year. That, combined with what I grow, is a good amount for our family. Did I say we...
Another update...
I got a call about 2 or 3 weeks ago from the MG coordinator (she conducted the info. session and administered the test back in May).

The next step was to attend an initial...

I've read that the program fees vary across the country...
Hello!
I am a bit late to the conversation but thought I would share too. I just mailed my application for our Master Gardener program last week!
Our program is offered by the Penn State extension offices throughout each county in the state. Actually, my county doesn't have it's own Master...
Hi Shelley,
I just posted this over in "fruits and veggies" but I thought you might find it helpful too...
I just finished reading Eliot Coleman's "The Winter Harvest Handbook" and can't recommend it highly enough!!! I got it from the library.
His farm is in Maine and I was just amazed at...
My favorite recipe for the long, skinny Asian eggplants:
Hot-and-Sour-Chinese-Eggplant
You can easily adapt the recipe to your liking. Use hot pepper to taste and whatever hot peppers I have on hand. Sometimes I use a combo of chili/sesame oil. It's easy to add other veggies and or a protein...
