I have my coworkers trained so that whenever we have a potluck type of treat day - at the end of the day the leftovers are put in a bag for my chicks. They get some unusual treats....but it is fun to watch em....
Funny thing is I usually put my garden in around the end of april but didn't because the tiller was still in the shop. Took em over a month..grrrr. but it was a stroke of luck because we had a freak late season frost and many people lost started gardens
Grrrrr ....kansas weather has been freaky this year but it is finally going to be planting time. I have greens in planters on my deck and thank goodness for trash bags to cover em....they have survived so far. Looking forward to my first salad this week.

Update on the powermate! Took it in to the factory auth dealer for repairs...it got caught in snow out here....so was prepared for the worst. They quoted 160....still cheaper than a new one so I had em do the work. New fuel filter and carburator and it runs like new....actually better than...

Lemon cukes... grew like crazy...more than anyone wanted to eat and turned to mush when pickled... good flavor but just too mushy.
Will focus more on winter squash... I turned my storm cellar into a root cellar... and just finished my last winter squash... so I want it full next fall...

My six yr old wants carrots and I try every year... but usually get tops and no carrots. I am trying something this year. I planted some seeds in a whiskey barrel planter filled with nice loose soil and miracle gro soil. I figure at least if the tops grow it will look pretty on my porch...
