    new to compost

Through stuff in a pile and let it sit. There's nothing complicated about it. Everything has to rot sometime! There's only 1 thing for sure in life...death, and that everything decomposes.

    Fig Tree Propagation

This is the first time I've tried to propagate any tree and have ended up with some success. In late January, I cut 5 dormant twigs off my fig tree, hoping to turn them into baby trees. I dipped them in powder root hormone and wrapped each in a wet paper towel. Then I put them in a plastic bag...

    MY hot Compost Pile!

Yesterday the pile was blazing! 2" down and I couldn't go further. It was the hottest I had ever felt it. Yet, today it wasn't warm at all. I'm scheduled to turn it tomorrow, so that should get it fired up again. I've noticed there is mold growing on the material. It's dry mold. All of the...

Lavendar from seed - Having trouble

Wow, every summer I have a bunch lavender seedlings growing around the garden. I do have several bushes, though. You could try the old egg-carton way. They transplant well and are very low maintenance.

    MY hot Compost Pile!

Thanks for the tip. Most of the weeds were dandelions that haven't gone to seed. This morning, I was sent outside to put a large bowl of kitchen scraps in the compost pile. So, as advised in my research, I dug a trench in the center of the heap. I added all the materials (which consisted of...

    MY hot Compost Pile!

This morning, I found my chihuahua curled up on the heap. I guess she was cold this morning, or just likes the heat? Anyway, once I shooed her off, I shoved my hand deep into the pile. It was quite exhilirating. First, I found steam beaming against my hand...going deeper, I felt the real nice...
