Placed bone meal around the roses tonight and will give them some aged horse manure if I manage to snag some this week.

There is a fertilizing treatment that is supposed to be fantastic for getting roses to push new canes. It involves soaking alfalfa pellets for several days then applying the water and solids to the root zone. I've never gotten it together to do this but it has gotten a lot of raves from people who have. I don't remember the details but I'm sure you can find them easily.

I've heard of that too! I'm wondering if one could do it with dried clover clippings? Don't want to have to buy a bag of alfalfa just for the roses. Got tons of deep, lush clover this season, though. Might see if I can make myself some clover tea.....
