    Hardy fast growing vines

You could attach a 3 ft hardware cloth at the bottom of the run so they can't get at whatever you plant. That way it will have a chance to grow.

    What's up with my apples?

Is it possible they are hitting something and getting bruised? They look like bruises to me. :idunno

    A berry tree?

Hmmm, I may have to try to find some locally and see if we like them. If so, I know of one more tree to plant in the orchard. Although, the way that has been going it may not be wise either. The three trees I planted 2 years ago didn't survive this last winter. :hit

    A berry tree?

Thank you. I don't know if the leaves smelt or not. A summer cold has hit and smelling is not at best performance right now so, I didn't even think to smell it. It was a big tree and provided quite an area of shade. Of course, right now it's shedding it's fruit so one wouldn't want to just sit...

    A berry tree?

We took a trip this last weekend and I saw this tree that had what looked like blackberries on it. Can anyone tell me what it is and if the berries are edible and if so, what they are good for. It has my curiosity.

    Major Corn Tragedy

Can't think much of your neighbors. :( I am a dairy farmer and while we do our best to keep fences up and in good shape, things happen, even with brand new fencing. If you have animals, you need to be prepared to compensate or fix damage done by your animals, IMO. I would tell the neighbor he...

Not a good year for vegetable gardening

Here it gets dry and then dumps 3-3 1/2 inches of rain on us. One extreme to the other but, at least my garden gets a chance to dry out in between. I feel for you as there's not much you can do when everything is wet. :hugs

    Asparagus and weeds

The salt helps keep the weeds down but, you can't do it in the regular garden as it will hurt the plants. I was told that if I salted so the bed was white it would last a couple of years. I don't know if it's the soil here or what but, I have to do it every year.

    Asparagus and weeds

Usually I lightly till and then salt my asparagus bed each spring before it comes up. This year it came earlier than normal so I didn't get it done. I'm wondering if I can salt it still or is there something else I can do? Hand pulling the weeds is not a choice. The bed is to big for my hands to...

Mine are just coming up and they are on the south side of the house, the bed is right tight to the house.

Sticky Weed Identification - Worst Weed Ever (well, almost)

Pulling works great for some weeds but, I like you prefer to get the "big gun" out when it something nasty. DH's family let the nettles and thistles go around here. I have them under control but, I'm not sure they will ever be gone. Some of that stuff the seeds can remain dormant for decades or...
