    Not for the squeemish....

Last year we ended up with 3 roosters after buying chicks. 2 of them were obnoxious so ...off with their heads! We kept the little Brahma because he was cute a quiet. But gradually he has grown to think he is "all that." I was spending my time in the pen, never turning my back, and frequently...

    Help saver my Rhody!

Our Rhody (Rhododendron) recently has begun crisping the edges of the leaves and a white fungus has appeared around the flower buds. It has spread to another nearby bed fellow. Anyone know what fungicide to use. We needn't be organic in that part of the yard as we are far enough from the field.

    FREE SEEDS!!!!!

Last year I harvested a lot of seeds. I paid an arm and a leg for certain seeds so I made sure to save seed. I now know why they were so expensive; what a pain! But you can reap my efforts. I have: Larkspur Strawflower (these were really a pain!) Genovese basil Red Russian Kale (not so...

What's your favorite online chicken hatchery?

Curious as to where everyone is getting their chicks? How much is shipping? Which do you like the best and why? I heard talk about it on here, but I thought a concise thread might be nice!

Disaster in the crock!!! Fermented pickle debacle :-(

Last year I thought I would try my hand at fermented pickles. The "real deal" as my book put it. It was a disaster. I have never made anything so disgusting! Every other day I skimmed the "scum" that looked a lot like maggots. It smelled pretty good, but after 3 weeks of hard work--:hit...

Something to do with all that jam

So I looked up in the cupboard and saw all this jam I had made last year. I don't know what I was thinking! We really don't eat it so much of it. So I've been getting creative: dehydrated jelly treats, meat baked with jelly, and homemade yogurt with jelly mixed in is fine. I posted another...

    Deer repentant?

So someone told me to wisk egg whites in water and spray around the field. Should I put it ON the plants? Any thoughts on homemade repellents? What else are you using to deter these beasties?

    I wish Bambi would die!

OK, so that sounds sooo mean, but hey! These deer are trying to kill my newly planted orchard and have just about killed the strawberries--all 400 we planted! So I put up deer fencing. It looks so neat and clean up in the field. I am wondering about the viability of deer fencing>? Any thoughts?
