    Fall tomatoes!

I got my tomatoes started on time this year, but they stayed in the starter pots for too long. Of the 10 I started with I only have 3 left. One is about 3 inches tall, one is about 6 inches and the biggest one is about a foot and a half. :barnie I should just rip'em out of ground and plant some...

    Garlic

I have my garlic planted already. I planted it in pots. I've never grown garlic before, just got the bug one day and went out there and put it in. Just used some I had gotten at the grocery. Planted it too early too. Well, we'll see how it does. Looks good so far. I prepared a little patch to...

    Teeny Tiny Snails

Haven't checked in for a while, but the teeny tiny snails are gone. I beered 'em, egg shelled 'em, salted them, and then we had a big storm and afterwards it seemed they were all gone. I've been checking every day for about a week now and haven't seen any. :celebrate So, thanks for the advice...

    Teeny Tiny Snails

CMinNH: I thought about the salt, but I am concerned about the plants. There are a lot of little young plants in there. We have fish in an aquarium in the house. Maybe I will grab a few and throw 'em in to see what the fish doe. Even though the shells are hard, they are very, very tiny. I should...

    Teeny Tiny Snails

Well, when I got home I went outside and checked on the "peabarrow" as I am calling it now. (Peas in a wheelbarrow) I tried to squish 'em, but they won't squish. I figured since they were babies they'd be squishable, but no. So, I'm gonna beer 'em to death. Took a couple of little bowls, but...

    Fall fever?

Sorry, but I can't wait for fall. Of course, in the New Orleans area we don't get as cold as you do.

    I'm Scared!

Storage space is a problem for me too. The worse thing I did when we rebuild our house after Katrina was to take out the storage closet. It was about twice the size of a regular bedroom closet, like a small walk in closet. It wasn't huge, but it was a good size storage space. I didn't live in...

    I'm Scared!

Hi Ninnymary. Don't worry too much about that. I made some fig preserves this year. It was my first time canning and I was nervous, but they came out just fine. Once he has some home made grape jelly or apple preserves he'll be glad you put so much effort into this stuff. Yum! :drool

    Teeny Tiny Snails

Thanks Wifezilla. I'd loooove to have some ducks! or chickens. No room and dogs would eat 'em. And like you said, I still wouldn't have any peas!

    Teeny Tiny Snails

OK. So I went outside this morning to check on my gardens and found the teeniest tiniest little baby snails in with my pea garden (they are planted in an old wheelbarrow by themselves). There has to be about a couple hundred of them n there! :th Should I be worried about this. Do I need to go...

What are you planting right now/fall

I'm in zone 8b/9a and a while back I started seeds for tomato, cucumber, bell pepper, jalapeno pepper, corn, and summer squash. I finally put them in the ground Monday. Should have done it about two weeks ago! Also, last week I planted peas. Planted the seeds directly in the soil for those and...

    Plants are Miraculous Things

Poor little guy. I'm so glad it recovered. I'm sure he was very upset. Every gardening mistake is a lesson learned though!

More wet weather woes, Brown Rot on my Peaches. :(

We've had a lot of rain here in the last two or three weeks as well. It ruined the end of my peach harvest. None of the ones that ripen without splitting have any taste at all. I also lost two cantaloupe so far. I put bricks under the 4 remaining good ones so that they don't sit on the wet...

Are you hooked on canning too?

So far I have only gotten 5 jars of fig preserves. We've had so much rain that it seems to have ruined the reset of the fig harvest. (rotted one of my cantaloupe too! :somad) I've not had enough of anything ripen at that same time to can any of it, so we've been either freezing or eating it all...

    Peas and tomato pics!!

I am about to plant some peas for a fall/winter crop. How many plants did you put down that you are getting such a big harvest? I'd love to get this much because I am planning to can them. Also do you, or does anyone, know about how many bush bean plants I'd have to plants to get an equally...

Canning well under way, pic of what I have so far!
