    Just some pictures

She's called a Writing Spider around here, because of the zigzag pattern in the center of her web. They eat lots of mosquitoes and flies, so we leave them be. Whenever my kids see one they start looking for the big, white, round egg pouch they produce. We also leave those be, so that we have...

    Mole Repellant?

I think that you have to chew the seeds to ingest enough ricin to make you sick. I read that 6-8 seeds is the fatal dose in humans. I don't think the roots would be a problem.

    Squash Bug WAR!

I heard of using duct tape to get the eggs off of the leaves.

    Tomato Basil Biscuits

That's easy, you just put some dried tomatoes in the food processor and pulse until you have powder. A blender would work, as would a mortar and pestle if you're feeling old school. :)

    Ducks

I seem to have all of my ducks in a row these days. :gig

    Tomato Basil Biscuits

You'd have to adjust the amount of liquid in the recipe ( a little less, depending on how juicy the tomatoes are), but it might work. Why don't you try it Cat, and let us know how it turns out?

    Tomato Basil Biscuits

Lesa, it has baking soda and baking powder in the flour, not yeast. I think it's mostly for quick breads. I used it because I was out of baking powder, and didn't feel like running to the store. You could add the tomato powder and herbs to any biscuit recipe.

    Tomato Basil Biscuits

I made these for dinner tonight and they turned out so well that I just had to share. I used tomato powder that I made from some dried cherry tomatoes and basil that I dried. I put the recipe on my blog for anyone who wants it...

I was interviewed by a blogger and author from Australia for her Simply Living blog this week. Here's a link if you'd like to read it.

    Disappointment at the Grocery Store

If it's organic it's not a GMO. Basically all processed food is either made with GM corn or GM soy. Most cotton is GM, most sugar from sugar beets is GM, most canola oil is GM. There aren't very many GM fruits and veggies in the produce department...yet.

    New Weed Control (hopefully)

My goats would laugh at me if I tried to keep them in that pen. They just love to escape. A 6 foot chain link fence keeps them in...most of the time. As for eating everything but the garden, good luck, mine could be surrounded by alfalfa and corn and they wold still rather eat my plants. They...

    A world gone mad .......

Yes, it's the song from Alice in Wonderland. It popped into my head as soon as I started reading that article.

    Mysterious White Sunflower Seeds

I don't think seed color will have any effect on the ability to photosynthesize.

    A world gone mad .......

"Painting the roses red We're painting the roses red We dare not stop Or waste a drop So let the paint be spread We're painting the roses red We're painting the roses red Oh, painting the roses red And many a tear we shed Because we know They'll cease to grow In fact, they'll soon be dead And...

    Ducks

Ha ha, hubby fed them from his hand for the first time last night and he was surprised by how strong their bills are. I don't think they could actually take off a finger, but they can pinch really hard. It's much worse when I sit on the front porch step, they try to eat my clothes and my hair if...

    Horseradish

If you want a creamy sauce you can just add a spoonful of the prepared horseradish to some mayo or sour cream. :)

    Peach Tree

I know it takes a whole lot longer for trees grown from seed to produce fruit (up to 10 years) and a lot of fruits don't breed true, that's why most fruit trees are grafted. But it would be a fun project. Good luck. :)

Any Tips for Bathing A Hen?

I once painted one nail on one chicken, so that I knew which hen it was laying the darkest brown eggs. Of course, something ate her the next day. I think it's was attracted to the smell of nail polish.
