Did a search and didn't find a definitive answer; I have quite a bit of charcoal ash (No easy to ignite petroleum products.) and I was wondering if it would be good for my tomatoes?
They are my sister-in-law and her husband. Their names are Linda and Gene Walmer. Both are handicapped. He is 91 and she is 60. They were last seen boarding AMTRAK in Longview, Texas on December 12 of this year. They were bound for Orlando, Florida with layovers in Chicago, Illinois and...
I planted a Brown Turkey Fig Tree last spring and it's doing well. The Old Farmers Almanac says we're in for a cold, wet winter here, and it's proving to be accurate so far.
How do I protect it from frost? I was thinking about just covering it with a black plastic bag at night and taking it off...
While far from the cheapest at $37.47 for a 100' section it's a real bargain. You can pick it up at WalMart in the Garden section. I've had one section for over 7 years now and it has survived freezing and boiling. It rarely kinks. The manufacturer is so convinced of it's superiority that it has...
One of the few things that did reasonably well in my garden was Italian sweet peppers. How do I keep them. What can I use them in.
Any info would be appreciated.
I planted red onion sets about 4 months ago. I harvested today and they were all really small, the largest was only about 3" in diameter. Some plants didn't produce a bulb at all, just roots.
I planted them about 8" apart and 1' rows.
I'm sure we all have some tool, implement or structure that we have always wanted, but could never justify purchasing for whatever the reason. I know I do, but I will wait until there are a few posts on this topic, not wanting to point it in a specific direction.
Tell us your dreams, your...
I marinated a couple of chicken breasts for supper and OldGal dumped about 2 cups of the leftover marinade into my little trash barrel that holds my compost collection. It contained herbs, canola oil and a small amount of sunflower seed oil. Can I put it into my heap or is it just waste?
:he
I love the smell, the look and the taste, but according to the nursery you have to keep the flowers trimmed or they quit growing. That's turned into a twice a day job, minimum.
I'm a lazy gardener.
This is my Brown Turkey Fig. It seems to be doing well, but I worried that the huge leaves growing at ground level are sucking all of the nutrients away from the rest of the tree. Here's my dilemma:
1. Should I prune the main leader off and let the large healthier appearing ones grow thus...
So, The dandelion "crop" has been bumper this year so I've been pulling them up and giving them to the chickens. The girls love 'em, but I got to wonderin' if it was a good idea so I did a little research. Turns out they are extremely nutritious ranking right up there near Kale .
Another plus...
Getting ready to trim the basil. A search brought mixed results on how to do this. Some say a leaf-at-a-time, others say whole stems are the way to go and yet a third recommends a "military buzz cut" whatever that means. :hu
Please advise. :hugs
A neighbor gave me some packets of seed:
Watermelon
Cantaloupe
Squash
Eggplant
Cucumber
All of the directions on the packets say that they should be planted in hills a foot high and two feet across. Does what's under the hill make any difference? I was thinking of putting them on the...
The view, a slide show. Use full screen and you can read the titles.
The Boxwood Basil probably needs a little water, and the organic oats are just catgrass seed that a neighbor gave me, but hey. it's growin'. :)
Somebody said, "ya can't see rocks grow!" Well, ya don't see the grass grow either but it does. ~Brother Dave Gardner
Many years ago, when I was in the Navy we had an L.P. of the standup comedian quoted above. He had this great money makin' scheme. He was gonna plant ROCKS! He than figured he'd...
I've wondered since I was a little boy. Who decides? Around here, every spring Blue Bonnets and Indian Paint Brush take over whole meadows and roadsides. The same can be said of Dandelions. Both are lovely flowers. What's the difference? :idunno
The wild birds have been planting seed from their feeder. They've got a good crop of Sun Flowers going. One's already blooming.

I do believe that they planted the corn a bit close though.
