It got VERY windy here last night. The frame was up but the panels weren't on yet.... It's too cold and yucky to even go down so I took the pic from the deck. lol
The good news is that Harbor freight will refund my $.
I got some lovely shallots in the seed exchange but I have a problem...I have never planted shallots before.
I am in zone 5b. Do I want to put these in now or should I wait and plant them in the fall?
I started my master gardener classes last week and I am loving them!
The assignment for this week was to bring in soil and water samples to test in class.
I brought samples from all 3 of my gardens plus from around the fruit trees I planted last year.
EEEKKKK! i don't have a bit of soil on this...
Did anyone else get an e mail survey from Ball about the new lids and rings they are making? They are making brushed silver instead of gold to make them look like the old zinc lids.
One of the survey questions was about whether or not you would get rid of all your gold rins and buy new silver...
Yesterday was my GD's birthday party. She is 9 and loves to help me in the garden. Her Uncle got her a whole set of kid sized gardening tools with a carrying case, gloves, trowel, etc. It's better than mine!
When he handed her the shovel and rake that were just tied together with rafia she gave...
Well it seems I waited too long and I can't find blue or red potatoes any place now. Not a major disaster but the GD will be disappointed. Next year I'll know better. :(
While I was out shopping today i found the neatest toy at Lowes. It's made by Ferry Morse and it is a soil tester for both ph and fertility. I don't know how accurate it is but it sure is fun. lol
It's battery operated and has 2 prongs about 4 inches long that you stick down in the wet soil...
I guess this is kind of garden related since we probably all like to have beautiful birds around our gardens.
I wanted to get some blue bird boxes so I was searching on line and I found out that our Game Commission sells them at their nursery for $7. I couldn't believe it so I called and that is...
My husband decide last fall that he wanted to bring one of the pepper plants from the garden into the house. He dug it out right when they called for the first frost and put it in a pot. We put it down in the basement where there is a BIG windowand we also put a small grow light above it turned...
I am PSYCHED now!
I just spent 45 min. in my garden with the fork and the ground is perfect. Darn! It's too early to really plant anything here yet.
I had dumped some manure/chips on the garden back in the late fall and I thought maybe I could get it turned in to the soil just for an excuse to...
Has anyone taken the Master Gardener course from your county extension ? I have the info coming I just wondered what all was involved and if I am even qualified to apply for it.
I usually buy most of my plants but last year I started some from seed. i think I'll try to do a little more from seed this year.
What great web sites and catalogs do you order from?
I am fairly new to heirloom veggies. I would like to plant more this year but I have a question.
Since they are open pollinating do you only plant 1 heirloom variety of each vegetable to prevent cross pollination?
How far apart would I have to plant 2 different heirloom tomatoes to prevent...
I dug my onions on Saturday and was very disappointed. :( I only got about 5 lbs of onions and the biggest ones are only about 2 inches across. Most are smaller. I don't really know what kind they were, just whatever the local hardware store had sets of. lol
I'd like to actually order something...
I was reading a thread on here that related to sq. foot gardening and Mel's mix. Some people were having a problem finding vermiculite and peat.
This may not be an answer for everyone but it works great for me....We have a small/med. green house very near us and we know the owners. At the end of...
I can remember my grandfather making a beetle trap out of 2 litre soda bottles but i can't for the life of me remember who or what he used for bait.
Any one else familiar with these? The beetles have arrived in central Pa. this week. :(
